The December 2023 release of Mabox Linux introduces refreshed ISO images featuring the new LTS 6.6 kernel, with an option to choose the slightly older LTS 5.4 kernel for compatibility with older hardware. Users can easily install and run multiple kernel versions simultaneously. Noteworthy additions include the powerful combination of Tint2 panel and Jgmenu for advanced customization, enhanced Conky widgets with unique features, and the beloved Quake-style slide-out terminal accessible with F12. The Colorizer tool is nearing its final 1.0 release, offering improved configuration options for Openbox, Menu, and Conky, with ongoing development for Tint2 and desktop-wide theme settings. New users are reassured that while Mabox has specific tools, customization can be gradual and enjoyable. This version updates the entire operating system base (KDE and important packages) and also adds full artificial intelligence support. The system now natively supports Microsoft's Copilot and OpenAI's ChatGPT. Improvements in updating the critical part of the system have been implemented, such as advanced support for automatic updating of the system Kernel, among others.
Proxmox has unveiled version 3.1 of its open-source server backup solution, Proxmox Backup Server. The release includes support for Secure Boot, allowing protection of the boot process through digital signatures. Additionally, local sync jobs facilitate synchronization between local datastores, enhancing backup flexibility. The update is based on Debian 12.2 "Bookworm" with Linux kernel 6.5 as the stable default and ZFS 2.2.0. Notable features involve improved compatibility with LTO 9 tapes in the Tape Backup system and web interface translations in Croatian and Georgian. Proxmox Backup Server integrates seamlessly with Proxmox Virtual Environment and is available for free download under the GNU AGPLv3 license. In addition to packages the NixOS distribution also features modules and tests that make it what it is. This release brought 113 new modules and removed 18. In that process we added 1565 options and removed 362. GNOME 45 - GNOME has been updated to version 45 "Rīga", which introduces a new image viewer, a new camera app, and more changes. Default LLVM version - The default version for the LLVM package set has been updated to 16 (from 11) on both Linux and Darwin, which introduced lots of new features and improvements. ArcoLinux v23.12 has been released, featuring the addition of DK, a new tiling window manager, with scriptable and dynamic workspace capabilities. Cutefish and Ukui desktops faced issues and were excluded from the release. The Rofi menu replaces super + d for Openbox. Pamac is temporarily replaced by octopi due to appstream issues. The Sofirem tool now includes octopi and its notifier on all ISOs except ArcoLinuxD. mkinitcpio-firmware is added to XS ISOs, resolving build warnings. The Calamares installer is updated, removing appstream dependency. Hyfetch is included in the XL ISO, and plasma5 packages have been renamed.
