KaOS 2023.09, released on September 22, 2023, marks the shift towards Plasma 6 for KaOS, even though this ISO remains Plasma 5-based. Notable updates in this release include OpenSSL 3.1.3, Boost 1.82.0, Linux kernel 6.4.16, and Python 3.10.13. The Plasma desktop is updated to version 5.27.8, along with KDE Gear 23.08 and Frameworks 5.111.0, all built on Qt 5.15.10+. Additionally, a preview ISO for Plasma 6 is now available. SDDM 0.20.0 introduces Wayland support, moving closer to transitioning away from X11. The installer offers automated partitioning options for popular filesystems, and KaOS-specific tools like IsoWriter and Croeso enhance the user experience. The release also incorporates CRC and finobt enabled XFS filesystem as default for improved error detection and recovery.
Linuxfx has released version 11.4.2, based on the 22.04 Plasma LTS, bringing significant updates to both the operating system and its applications. Notably, PowerToys, a key utility, has received enhancements and new features in this release.
Plop Linux version 23.3, released on September 17, 2023, brings several notable changes. The update includes a Linux Kernel upgrade to version 6.5.3 and introduces gFTP as a replacement for Filezilla. Additionally, Alsa ucm-conf has been added. The release includes various system improvements such as clearing the /var/cache directory, cleanup of /etc/passwd and /etc/group files, a UID change for 'named,' and updates to /etc/udev/rules.d. Notably, compile flags now include -latomic for i486 architecture, and build scripts have been updated. A total of 203 packages have been updated, with detailed information available in Changelog-Packages.txt.
In the September 16, 2023 release (version 10.02), two significant additions were made to the system. First, the release introduced nmon, Nigel's Performance Monitoring tool for Linux, enhancing performance monitoring capabilities (#351). Additionally, libldm, a set of tools for managing Microsoft Windows Dynamic Disks, was incorporated into the system (#348). These additions represent key improvements in system management and monitoring.
Peropesis 2.2 Linux OS is released. In the new edition part of the old software was updated and a few new packages was installed. The newly installed tools are mainly intended for software development purposes. New software installed: 1. bison 3.8.2. GNU bison, is a parser generator, that generates LALR parsers. It can also generate canonical LR, IELR and GLR parsers. 2. gettext 0.22. GNU gettext is a software package, that containing tools, that commonly used for writing multilingual programs. 3. gperf 3.1. GNU gperf is a program that generates perfect hash functions for sets of key words. 4. texinfo 7.0.3. The GNU texinfo software package contains programs for writing, reading and converting info pages. Note. In the Peropesis 2.2 filesystem there is not distributed the GNU software documentation, available as info pages (/usr/share/info). 5. linux GPU drivers (drivers/gpu). These drivers are designed to serve for graphics processing units.
Sparky 7.1 "Orion Belt" is the latest quarterly update to the stable release line of Sparky 7, fully compatible with Debian 12 "Bookworm." This release includes package updates from Debian and Sparky stable repositories as of September 12, 2023, featuring Linux kernel 6.1.52. Notable software versions include LibreOffice 7.4.7, Calamares 3.2.61, KDE Plasma 5.27.5, LXQt 1.2.0, MATE 1.26, Xfce 4.18, and more. Sparky's unstable repo has been removed, and RPi imager support has been added to all ISO images for Raspberry Pi users. Various note-taking applications have been added to different desktop environments, and there's a warning about the 'os-prober' behavior regarding bootable partitions. Users of Sparky 7.0 can simply update without reinstalling. New ISO images are available for download on the Sparky website.
Univention Corporate Server 5.0-5 is the fifth point release for Univention Corporate Server (UCS) 5.0. It contains all erratas released since version 5.0-4 for bug fixes, performance improvements and security updates for Samba, Linux, OpenSSH, Bind and Python, among others. UCS 5.0-5 is available in the 'Software Update' module and can be found in our download area. In total, the new point release includes 28 security updates that we have provided since the last UCS point release, such as those for Samba, Linux, OpenSSH, Bind, and Python. We have also implemented various bug fixes in the Univention Management Console (UMC) environment and upgraded some UMC modules to the new capabilities that have been available with the UMC server since the fundamental change from UCS 5.0-4. In the future, we will be able to significantly reduce the memory consumption of UMC during operation in certain cases. Also worth mentioning is the new option of explicitly setting an empty value or deleting the value in the UMC module for the Univention Config Registry (UCR).
