Tails 6.9, released on October 31, 2024, introduces several updates and fixes to enhance user security and performance. Key updates include Tor Browser 14.0.1, Tor client 0.4.8.13, and Thunderbird 115.16.0. A notable bug fix resolves an issue where automatic upgrades would abort with an error message despite successful downloads. Users can upgrade to Tails 6.9 automatically from version 6.0 or later while preserving their Persistent Storage, though manual upgrades are available if issues arise. For fresh installations, Tails 6.9 can be installed on USB, DVD, or virtual machines, but note that installing rather than upgrading will erase Persistent Storage.

This is a regular version that aims to introduce new technologies to the system and the latest news is the introduction of KDE 6 which was responsible for this version coming with some features and design elements missing, since such features are still under development or have not yet been ported to Qt 6. With KDE Plasma 6 comes Qt 6, which opens up a huge range of possibilities for new features that will come gradually in the new versions of the system, now Br OS comes with Wayland by default, which is fully functional in KDE 6 a great news for KDE haters who complained about its instability (which made Br OS adopt Latte Dock to get around the problem), is that KDE 6 is incredibly stable, surpassing GNOME and other very solid environments, unfortunately the look of KDE 6 is very strange if you try to start the section via X.Org, however this should be fixed in future versions of KDE. This version comes with KDE Plasma 6.1.5, KDE Framework 6.6.0, Qt 6.6.2, Linux kernel 6.11, Wayland standard graphic server (X.Org as an alternative).
After much optimisation for our hardware, we have reached the point where labwc desktops run just as fast as X on older Raspberry Pi models. Today, we make the switch with our latest desktop image: Raspberry Pi Desktop now runs Wayland by default across all models. When you update an existing installation of Bookworm, you will see a prompt asking to switch to labwc the next time you reboot. We recommend that most people switch to labwc. Existing Pi 4 or 5 Bookworm installations running Wayfire shouldn't change in any noticeable way, besides the loss of a couple of animations which we haven't yet implemented in labwc. Because we will no longer support Wayfire with updates on Raspberry Pi OS, it's best to adopt labwc as soon as possible. Older Pis that currently use X should also switch to labwc.
Fedora Linux 41 has been released early, offering significant updates and improvements across its editions. Key changes include DNF 5, a faster and more compact package manager, replacing “microdnf” and suitable for all device types. GNOME 47 now powers Fedora Workstation, with Ptyxis as the new default terminal. KDE Plasma Desktop is updated to KDE 6.2, and the release introduces the “Miracle” desktop environment featuring tiled window management. Fedora's image-based variants now use "bootc" for flexible container-driven customizations and “bootupd” for smoother bootloader updates. New support for MIPI cameras, PipeWire in Firefox, and Secure Boot for Nvidia drivers enhance compatibility, while zero-day updates address security.
Parrot team is happy to introduce you to Rocket, a launcher written entirely in Python using PyQt6 for the GUI, to launch Docker containers, specifically some security tools in our repository on Docker Hub (and others, from other repositories). This application runs on ParrotOS, but is also compatible with other distributions, and can also run on Windows and MacOS. It only requires the installation of docker.io to interface with Docker and allow the user to manage containers. Instead of typing and downloading a specific tool, through Rocket you can select a tool from the list, and then downloading the Docker image and launching the container is taken care of by the application.

AlmaLinux OS has announced the introduction of AlmaLinux OS Kitten 10, a preview of the upcoming AlmaLinux OS 10, built from CentOS Stream 10. This release is a proactive effort to ensure a seamless transition to AlmaLinux 10 and maintain compatibility with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). Notably, Kitten re-enables frame pointers for enhanced system profiling, includes x86-64-v2 support for older hardware, and restores SPICE and KVM for IBM POWER. Additionally, traditional RPM packages for Firefox and Thunderbird remain available despite RHEL's switch to Flatpak. This release is aimed at fostering community engagement and transparency during AlmaLinux's development process.
