Q4OS 5.5 Aquarius has been released as a major update to the Q4OS 5 Aquarius LTS series. This update integrates recent Debian Bookworm 12.6 updates, the updated Debian stable 6.1.0-22 kernel, and important security and bug fixes. It includes Q4OS-specific improvements, a cumulative upgrade from the previous stable release, and enhancements to the Calamares installer, Q4OS Setup tool, and Desktop profiler. Updated packages are being pushed to Q4OS repositories, and existing users will be automatically upgraded. Installation media images are available for download from the Q4OS website.
A Calamares developer, Adriaan DeGroot, fixed the installer bug recently. Since then, efforts have been made to create a basic working installer, resolving issues with /boot/vmlinuz-linux, the basic kernel setup, and changing the default session type from Wayland to X11, which took three days. A basic release is now available for download, although it lacks customizations such as desktop/deskpro/developer installation choices, look-and-feel options, and software updates. The desktop setup is minimal, featuring a top drop-down bar, folder view, and dock. The image file, bslx-6.9.7-8-2024.07.06-x86_64.iso, can be found on SourceForge. Users are advised to run a full system update after installation.
This release enables immediate, complete language switching during a work session without the need for a new login. In addition, the bookmark management for the file manager has been improved.

Today marks the release of Finnix 126, the original utility live Linux distribution. Finnix 126 includes a number of fixes, new packages and new features: Linux kernel 6.8 (Debian 6.8.12); new packages - libc6-i386 (finnix/finnix#35; not directly usable but allows for running certain i386 binaries in Finnix's amd64 userland); added 0 kernel command line option which does the same as the 0 (locale-config) utility, but during early boot and before shell prompts; upstream Debian package updates; many minor fixes and improvements. This is the first Finnix release to contain additional 'supply chain' assurances. The release was built on a public CI platform (GitHub Actions), with the ISO (.disk/build_info) pointing to the URL of the build run which lists a SHA256 checksum of the ISO and links to the exact commit used to build it. Additionally, the build provides an attestation of the build artifacts through GitHub's new attestation functionality. Note that this release was made a few days after the OpenSSH CVE-2024-6387 vulnerability announcement, and to be clear, Finnix 126 does include a fixed version (Debian 9.7p1-7).
The Debian project has released the sixth update to Debian 12 (codename "bookworm") on June 29, 2024. This point release, Debian 12.6, primarily includes security fixes and important bug corrections. It does not constitute a new version of Debian 12 but updates some of the existing packages. Users who regularly update from security.debian.org will find fewer packages to update. Updated installation images will soon be available, and users can upgrade existing installations through Debian's package management system. A detailed list of fixed packages and their justifications is included in the release notes.

This release features the Openbox window manager and a suite of applications including GParted, PCManFM, and Netsurf. It also provides a comprehensive set of CLI tools like testdisk, clonezilla, and cryptsetup. Additionally, there is a 1-click install option for various applications such as Firefox, Chromium, and Dropbox.
